SANTA CLARA, CALIF. — March 22, 2004 —
Sanctum, Inc., the leader in automated Web application security firewall and
testing solutions, today announced that Sanctum's AppShield has won Network World's
fifth annual "Best of the Tests Award" in the Security Infrastructure category.
AppShield earned the award over competing products from KaVaDo, Internet Security
Systems and Network Associates for delivering outstanding results in hands-on tests
performed by the Network World Lab Alliance.
The Network World "Best of the Tests" awards were given to the 13 top performing
products in 14 enterprise networking categories, based on the results of comprehensive
reviews done throughout the year. Lab Alliance members cited AppShield's dynamic
policy generation and strong default configuration as well as security-oriented
features that go beyond the usual menu of application firewall options as key
features that helped AppShield secure this award.
"In our testing of six software-based Web application firewalls conducted last
summer, AppShield edged out some stiff competition because-in addition to
fending off most Web-based attacks we tossed its way-it's got an airtight default
configuration and a cool dynamic policy-generation feature," said Christine Burns,
director, Network World Test Alliance.
This is Sanctum's third award from Network World in the past year. In August 2003,
AppShield received the publication's "World Class Award" in a testing of six
software-based Web application firewalls. In January 2004, Sanctum CEO Peggy Weigle
was named one of the 50 Most Powerful People in Networking, a ranking based
on title and responsibility within the company, the recipient's visibility,
serving as a role model for the network industry and "clout" or overall
industry influence.
The most advanced application firewall available in the market, AppShield offers
bulletproof defense for even the most complex application deployments. AppShield
integrates quickly and easily into any Internet infrastructure, maintaining
application behavior 24/7 without the need for signatures or rules. By using
AppShield, IT administrators can accelerate and maintain comprehensive protection
of their e-business operations, ultimately cutting excessive operating costs
associated with security implementation and maintenance.
