Santa Clara, Calif. - April 3, 2000 - Perfecto Technologies, the leading developer of Web
application security management software, today announced the addition of five new
members to the Application Security Alliance program. The Application Security Alliance
was founded to ensure the overall security of Web applications by creating a
best-of-breed community of application-level value added product and service providers.
The new additions are among the leaders in Internet security, eCommerce and networking,
reflecting the growing, industry-wide demand for robust, interoperable Internet security
technologies.
The latest additions to the
Application Security Alliance include: F5 Networks, the leader in Internet Traffic
and Content Management; GemStone Systems, Inc., the proven leader in technology and
services for eBusiness applications; Rainbow Technologies, a leading provider of
security solutions for Internet and eCommerce; Resonate, a leading provider of Internet
Services Management business solutions that ensure high availability, performance and
control of eBusiness applications; and Secant Technologies, Inc., a leading provider
of eBusiness infrastructure.
"Ebusinesses today
must choose from a bewildering array of Internet security vendors, products and
services," said Debra Nordgren, vice president of business development at
Perfecto Technologies. "Attempting to develop a comprehensive security strategy
without objective information about interoperability is not only difficult, but
potentially dangerous. Most companies have no idea where to begin. The
Application Security Alliance is the first organization intended to play the
role of 'honest broker' between vendors and eBusiness customers."
"Applications,
especially those that are Web-enabled, have been largely overlooked from an IT
security perspective. Some of the costliest incidents of fraud and misuse can be
directly linked to online application vulnerabilities, which are largely
preventable," said Dennis Szerszen, of Hurwitz Group. "Organizations such as the
Application Security Alliance play a vital role in improving the overall level of
security on the Internet by making it easier for eBusinesses to implement
interoperable security programs that effectively protect their Web sites. This
Alliance, in particular, is important because it brings together a variety of
well-known security vendors as well as eCommerce service, infrastructure and
hardware providers."

joint marketing and sales. In its second phase, the Alliance will develop
a general framework defining the protocols and APIs that enable the interaction
of all application security products with other components in the network of
